Hope for Appalachia
Christmas bags project

Hope for Appalachia ministry serves in public schools in 7 different counties in Eastern Kentucky. The first mission trip is always the week before Easter. This trip, the HFA missionaries visits schools in the 7 counties while sharing the Easter story with the students, teachers, and parents. Each student receives a packed shoebox filled with school supplies, a toothbrush, a tube of toothpaste, socks, and a few fun items. We often take for granted that everyone has a toothbrush, yet we have heard from students that they haven't had toothpaste in a year or they may have to share a toothbrush with their family. Many are so excited to have their very own toothbrush. Sometimes students even change out their old socks for new ones before heading back to class. The students and teachers are prayed with during the time that the missionaries are in the school. Many precious souls are introduced to Jesus, and they are told that Jesus loves them, and the missionaries tell the students that they love them as well. Connections are made with students and staff. Many surrender their lives to Jesus during this week's mission trip.

The second mission trip is at the end of November/beginning of December. This is a 3-day trip where coats, blankets, and other warm items are brought into the schools. The missionaries share Jesus with the Pre-K and Kindergarten students within each school they visit. These students receive a gift bag for Christmas. They read a book to them, sing Christmas songs, and show the love of Jesus in each of those classes.

As ECCO's directors, Hope for Appalachia is dear to our hearts as this is the ministry that introduced us to Kentucky. Donald's first mission trip is when God called us to Kentucky. We have been led to continue to support the Hope for Appalachia ministry through packing Christmas bags. Thank you for partnering with us in this wonderful ministry.
